Northern Soul Special

We’ve got a great Northern Soul and Funk Special lined up for Bank Holiday Monday !

Inspired by the Motown sound, Northern Soul plays a rich part in English music heritage with classics from such legends as Jackie Wilson, Freda Payne, Walter Jackson and Al Greene & The Soul Mates all featuring as part of this special show.

Northern soul is a music and dance movement that emerged in Northern England in the late 1960s. The music that has been described as Northern Soul originally consisted of obscure American soul recordings, including lesser known songs from Motown Records, Stax Records, Okeh Records and many more obscure record labels. The phrase Northern Soul was coined by journalist Dave Godin and popularized in 1970 through his column in Blues and Soul magazine. The music of Northern Soul could be heard and seen at the famous “All Nighter” and “All Dayer” concerts held at legendary venues such as Wigan Casino, Blackpool Mecca, The Golden Torch, The Twisted Wheel and many more.

You can hear the Northern Soul and Funk Special from 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday, August 29th, from 4pm.
